Twilight Hike in Arches

A Hike at Twilight
Moab. Possibly one of the coolest places in the world. So much to do here.

We heard about an interesting evening hike in Arches National Park where you climb a mountain to watch the sun set on a very scenic arch. We couldn't pass this up.

The trail started off at the floor of the desert.

And then it started to climb as the sun started to set.

The trail soon became just rock. It was important to find markers so that you knew where the trail continued. The views up here were great.

See those stones to the right of me? They let you know that you are still following the trail.

We climbed higher and higher as the sun continued to descend lower and lower.

Not only were we climbing higher, but the trail seemed to narrow significantly. It was exhilarating to climb this high in such a unique environment.

The Arch
Finally, we made it to the fascinating arch at the top of the mountain. It sat at the edge of nothingness. With the sun setting on it, we sat stunned.

Extreme Nicki
Well, here she goes again. While I play the voice of caution, Nicki of course wants to experience it all. In this case, she wants to get a photo standing under the arch.

Of course, there isn't level footing anywhere, but that is not stopping her. She slowly and carefully makes her way over to the arch.

Ok, here she goes. She's cautiously walking out under the arch. (You may need to click into these pictures)

And there she is, under the coolest arch in Arches National Park. I, on the other hand, work the camera from a comfortable distance.

The Hike Back Down
We sat up at the arch until the sun had set. A little too long actually. Darkness took us quickly.

It got so dark that we really needed a flashlight. But our eyes adjusted to the dark and we found our way back. The air was warm and we were knew we were hiking the scenic deserts of Utah - Definitely an unforgettable hike. Once again, we have Arches National Park and Moab to thank.
